Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal treatments are done in packages to insure the treatment of the hair in its active growth cycle. Often 3 to 6 treatments are recommended. These sessions are done approximately 4 to 8 weeks apart depending on the area of the body being treated and on your skin and hair type. Specific recommendations appropriate for your skin type and your particular needs are made for you at the time of your consultation
Hair’s active growth phase is called anagen. The effectiveness of laser hair removal depends on the characteristics of the individual. Skin type, hair type and pigment are all factors that can determine the outcome for a person. Our guests come to us with a wide array of skin types, hair types and hair problems, but the commonality is their desire for hair removal. Based on these individual factors, it is our job to determine the best choice of laser and best treatment plan that will produce the most desirable results.
There are many factors that influence the cost. Treatment costs vary with the size of the area treated, hair type and skin type. Cost of removing hair with a laser can also be dependent upon the number of treatments that we believe will be needed. Generally, laser hair removal can have less overall cost than the alternative electrolysis or repeated waxing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is hair removal temporary or permanent? How many treatments will it take?
Hair removal is both temporary and permanent. Between treatments, patients will rarely have to shave, tweeze, or pluck. However, if the treatments stop, some of the hair will return in a few months which will be finer and lighter than before. The more treatments, the less hair will ultimately come back.
Hair grows in cycles. Some hair follicles are actively growing while others remain in a dormant phase. The laser eliminates only hair follicles in the active growth phase. Approximately four weeks later, additional hair follicles enter the growth phase.
Usually 6 sessions, 4 to 8 weeks apart, are necessary before all hairs can be treated. Occasionally, a touch up treatment is required once a year to maintain results.
How Long Does It Take?
The actual treatment time varies, depending on how large an area is treated. It could range anywhere from 20 minutes to over two hours. We will discuss treatment time at your initial free consultation. The heat of the laser is absorbed by actively growing hair. At any given time, about 1/3-1/4 of your hair is actively growing. This means it has a blood supply which can be removed by the laser. Over the course of 4-6 treatments, most of your hair should have been treated during an active phase. Timing of treatments is dependent upon your hair growth cycle.
Are the treatments safe?
The Cynosure Apogee Elite Laser are FDA approved for hair removal. Treatments are non-invasive and very safe. Rare complications include burning, blistering, and extra pigmentation in the area being treated.
Can the laser remove all colors of hair?
The laser targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair, and thus will not effectively remove hair that is white, grey, blonde or extremely light. Dying light hair will not allow it to be removed by the laser.
Are There Any Risks?
Laser hair removal with the Cynosure Apogee is very safe. There is a small chance of having a burn-like reaction to your skin. This disappears for most people within 24-48 hours. The best way to avoid an increased reaction is to stay out of the sun for at least 1-2 weeks before and after your treatment. Sun exposure or any kind of tanning(spray included) also increases your risk of developing dark spots where you have been treated. We can adjust the laser to compensate for natural pigmentation.Laser Hair Removal,
